Dr David Bottomley qualified in medicine at The Westminster Hospital Medical School and completed his training in and around London.
He undertook his clinical oncology training at Mount Vernon Hospital, Westminster and Charing Cross Hospitals, joining Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust as senior registrar prior to his consultant appointment in 1996.
Dr Bottomley’s main interest is in the treatment of prostate cancer. He is one of the country’s leading experts in the delivery of prostate seed brachytherapy, having pioneered the development of this treatment in the UK . He is also highly experienced in the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer using chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment, as well as in the non-surgical treatment of bladder and lung cancers.
Author and co-author of many academic papers and articles, Dr Bottomley’s publications include The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet Oncology and The British Medical Journal. He is actively involved in both teaching and clinical research and has been the principle and chief investigator for many national and international studies and clinical trials.
Dr Bottomley is a co-founder of the British Uro-Oncology Group, a national body that provides guidance and teaching to oncologists, and is presently one of the advisors for the Prostate Brachytherapy Information Website.
He also sits on the organising faculty of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Genitourinary Oncology Annual Meeting – the premier international conference dedicated to uro-oncology.
